Headaches
Headaches are an extremely common complaint in the United States that account for significant lost work time, medical expenses, and reduction in the quality of life. Tension headaches and cervicogenic (arising from the neck) headaches are the two most often seen kinds of headaches. Fortunately these common syndromes respond well to the same techniques as other musculoskeletal conditions. Targeted massage, directed range-of-motion, and specific exercises can significantly reduce irritation of muscles, nerves and joints in the neck and upper back that refer pain and produce headaches. A 2001 Duke University Study also reports spinal manipulation as being an effective physical treatment for tension and cervicogenic headaches.
